The great thing about after school enrichment classes is that children can try almost anything they’re interested in. Enrichment courses help children understand their strengths, and it’s a fun, safe environment to try something totally new.
Enrichment courses can even help students develop new ideas about what they want to be when they grow up. The goal isn’t to force children to grow up right away. Instead, it’s about helping them dream big for the future. It’s about showing them that there may be connections between the hobbies they’re passionate about and possible career opportunities.
With that in mind, here are a few fun ideas for enrichment courses.
DJ Lessons
What could be more fun for children than to let loose and dance while their classmates drop a beat? DJ lessons are an excellent way to teach children about music, techniques, and creating their own digital sound.
The story we heard about was from Omaha, Nebraska, but ask local DJs if they’re interested in sharing their passion and inspiring children. See how Omaha students learned to DJ at their after school program.
Learning to Code
Our youngest generations have been around technology their entire lives — and that’s not likely to change as they get older. Children can pick up technology almost immediately, so why not teach them how to code? It’s fun for kids to turn technology into something tangible, like helping managing your program’s website. Plus, it gives them an advantage in our technology driven world.
Coded by Kids programs teach children how to code. They have programs in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware, and there may be similar programs in your area. There may even be a member of your community who is passionate about technology and loves teaching.
Student-Involved Charity
To help create change in their communities, some after school programs have added classes that support charitable causes. In Bellefonte, PA, high school students created handmade ceramic bowls for the Empty Bowls charity dinner event. This year, the dinner raised money for the YMCA’s Centre County’s Backpack Weekend Food program. Each year, students pick a different charity to receive the funds from the dinner. This is a great way to get children involved in making a difference in the lives of others, and it brings hope to the community.
Eleyo's Enrichment Program Management Software
Enrichment programs help children develop more than math and reading skills. These programs have the opportunity to grow children’s curiosity and imagination to new heights, and to prepare them for the future. Children are our hope for the future and providing them enrichment courses that help them develop as better humans helps us all!
